Materials

Materials & craftsmanship

The life of outdoor furniture is decided by how its materials behave under UV, salt spray and temperature swings.

PE wicker (HDPE)

HDPE extruded into strand and hand-woven over an aluminium tube frame. It does not absorb water or grow mould, and UV resistance can be rated beyond 3,000 hours.

Best for
Coastal sites, poolside and rainy climates — the safest choice among woven outdoor materials.
Care
Rinse with water; for stubborn marks use a mild detergent and a soft brush. Avoid sharp edges.

Outdoor rope (polyester / olefin)

Continuous rope woven in one run, with even tension. Softer than wicker and closer in feel to an upholstered sofa — the dominant approach in high-end outdoor furniture today.

Best for
Minimalist schemes, resort projects, and any setting that needs a softer look.
Care
Brush off dust and let it dry naturally after rain. Do not use a pressure washer at close range.

Teak

High in natural oil and silica, teak is one of the few timbers that can stay outdoors without a finish. Sun turns it silver-grey — normal oxidation that does not affect strength.

Best for
Courtyards, terraces and climates with wide temperature swings.
Care
Apply teak oil once a year to keep the original tone, or leave it to weather. Raise it off surfaces where water pools.

Aluminium (6063)

Light and rust-free. After chromate pre-treatment the surface is powder-coated and cured at 200°C, giving consistent colour and strong adhesion.

Best for
Almost any climate, especially humid and high-salt-spray environments.
Care
Wipe with a damp cloth. In coastal use, rinse off salt deposits periodically.

Fabrics and cushions

Quick-dry foam with a water-repellent polyester or acrylic cover that can be removed for washing. The open-cell structure lets rain pass straight through instead of pooling.

Best for
Poolside and furniture that stays out in the open.
Care
Covers can be machine washed cold on a gentle cycle; stand the foam up to dry. Avoid stacking while damp.

EnvironmentRecommended
Coastal / high salt sprayAluminium frame + PE wicker, with 316 stainless hardware
High UV / hot and dryAluminium + Textilene mesh; avoid dark heat-absorbing fabrics
Rainy / humidAluminium + PE wicker; avoid solid timber where water pools
Wide temperature swingsTeak or thick-wall aluminium; avoid thin-wall metal and brittle materials

Craft

How a piece is made

Frame forming

Tubes are cut, bent and welded to drawing, the welds ground flush, the whole frame chromate-treated, then powder-coated and cured at 200°C.

Hand weaving

Wicker or rope is woven continuously from the inside out, with ends concealed beneath the seat so no joints show. Uneven tension directly shortens service life.

Upholstery

Double-stitched seams with taped main joints to limit water ingress through stitch holes. Zips are corrosion-treated.

Hardware

304 stainless as standard, with 316 recommended for coastal or high-humidity projects. Exposed bolts are countersunk or capped.
